Sexy Electro-Beast Yelle!

July 6, 2011

We caught up with Yelle, the French electro-popper who fronts a band of the same name, at the wrap of their five-week North American tour. You might know Yelle for notorious reasons: she hit it big rapping about tiny dicks in “Je Veux Te Voir.” But the cheeky gamine has range — she sang demurely in the electro-pop version of “A Cause d’un Garcon,” an ’80s classic. She even spoofed hip hop in “Parle a la Main,” with Fatal Bazooka — a track that topped the charts in France and Belgium. But for their sophomore album, the kids have gotten a little more serious. And for the single, “Safari Disco Club,” Yelle even hit the high notes!

Onstage, the Breton singer transforms into a wild animal from space, contorting her fur-clad body into dynamic shapes. We got her to do a little bit of the same for our exclusive photo shoot in Venice Beach. We went predictably bathsh*t when we saw the results — no one’s looked ever looked so good in a leopard print unitard.
