Sound Kapital: Beijing’s Music Underground

June 1, 2011

One of Beijing’s grungiest clubs is D-22, a slim sliver of a rock club in the city’s University district of Wudaokou. That was the hangout of Matthew Niederhauser, a documentary photographer fascinated by the scene he saw unfurling around him. Niederhauser started taking pictures of the bands and compiled the images for the book Sound Kapital, which includes prints of gorgeous show flyers by illustrator Chairman Ca and a CD with tracks from the city’s best bands.
