New Video from Sigur Ros Frontman Jónsi: "Go Do"

When I heard clips off Jonsi’s solo project, I thought that the experimental band’s most normal member had been allowed to go produce the pop record he’d always wanted. Given their legible pop structure and strong melodies, I figured these tracks would be homey and sweet compared to Sigur Ros’ epic ice-glazes. (Listen to those clips in our review, here.)

But wow, the video for my favorite song from the record so far — “Go Do” — unleashes Jonsi’s natural weirdness. Glued all over with feathers, a la Ke$ha, Jonsi totes a wire cage of pigeons all up and down a pigeon cote, taking breaks only to toss of fireworks from Iceland’s iconic staggered rock risers. Hobbling about in sewn-up rags, Jonsi can almost be mistaken for an elvin character making a cameo in Dr. Parnassus.

But forget all of this and mark my words — this song is destined to be in every luxury car ad and indie film produced in 2010. It’s got a distinctive, catchy melody that hooks on a pounding waltz structure, such that the hook gets ramped up every time it comes around. It’s instantly like-able, a pop song with a classic feel. At the same time, it’s symphonic — meant to be played in big, vaulted churches. Not pigeon cotes.

Now if you’ll excuse me while you watch the video, I’m going to go buy tickets for his tour. (Dates below)
