Music Video Review
Dok2 -- "It's Gon' Shine"
May 6, 2011
Dok2 Is Half Man Half Amazing
Korean rapper Dok2 (AKA Gonzo Tha Notorious Kid, AKA The Dirty South Korean) has been in the business since he was a kid, starting as a member of the hip hop group All Black. In the just dropped performance video for his track “It’s Gon’ Shine,” off his Hustle Real Hard debut LP, it kind of shows.
The simple video, shot in crisp black and white, telegraphs that Dok2 believes his music speaks for itself. That makes him come across as all the more self-assured when he tells you he’s “half man, half amazing.” This young veteran, who has collaborated with the legendary Drunken Tiger crew, invites you to look listen and decide for yourself if he’s right.
He might have nothing to prove, and he might be sitting on a pile of swag, but in this clip he runs like he just got out of the gate. With springy flow, redolent of the dirty south, Dok2 switches between Korean and English without pausing for breath. Well, we’re amazed.
K-pop star Jay Park agrees and included Dok2 on his recent come back single “Abandoned.” Not surprisingly, there’s been a sharp uptick in online chatter about the rapper.
And check the cameo in the MV from his Illionaire Records partner The Quiett.
