A Disco Dream for Dance Pop

It’s hard to believe that Niki & the Dove’s “DJ, Ease My Mind” is not a brand-new song, cause its soaring dance pop makes me feel like it’s my very first time, every time.

And it’s even harder to believe now that they just released a brand-new video for the song. Levitation? Check. 80′s tribal facepaint. Check. Singer Malia Dahlstromm gleaming like a human disco ball in a mirrored bodysuit? Cheeeaaaeck.

Out this week, it adds to the Niki & the Dove’s admirable music video oeuvre, which also includes a woodland-club romp in “Mother Protect” and Viking and mummy costumes in “The Drummer.” 

Musically, in “DJ, Ease My Mind,” Niki & the Dove belt it out like a goth, forest-dwelling Abba. It’s hard to believe they only have one EP out. It is going to be crazy — feral Flashdance discotheque crazy — when their full-length debuts next year.
