Stepping into the world of import tuners and performance mods can be intimidating and awkward for most women. You’re surrounded by boys and their toys… what if they don’t want to share? Back in 2006, Sarah Taylor and Margo Romanowski met at the first ever NESIC (New England Subaru Impreza Club) “Girlie Meet” and bonded over their mutual interest in cars. Soon they met other women eager to share their love of turbo engines and personalized customization, and by June 2009 Sarah and Margo formed subiegirls.com. With over 200 members already, the website and forum has quickly become a gathering place for girls all over the world to talk about getting down and dirty in WD-40.

Go behind the scenes of Slidewayz motorsports and meet the crew responsible for fixing, modifying, converting, maintaining, and customizing the wildest rides in New Jersey. Check out their long-term projects, including the 1986 Toyota Corolla that's being restored to its original form. So "what is drifting?" we asked...and the boys not only answered, they took us out for night with fellow...

Sleek, curvy, hard-bodied, and so very very sexy, these cars are such a turn on. Um, the girls are rather nice too! MTV Iggy was in Englishtown, NJ to catch the final round of the D1 Grand Prix 2009 Professional Drift, and in between battles we wandered over the RIX magazine tent to check out the gorgeous models displaying all assets of car culture together in one place. We asked the ladies about what it's like being an import model -- how they got into the biz, the craziest stuff people have said, advice for newcomers, etc. We tried not to stare but our camera guy seems to have had other ideas...

Return to MTV Iggy Special Feature: Car Culture

Is drifting "the most fun you can have in a car"? That's how Terrance Jenkins, Competition Director for D1 Grand Prix USA describes it, and after watching the cars glide and slide through turns in a cloud of dust of burning rubber, you're going to see why. We spent a day in Englishtown, NJ, catching the scene at the final round of the D1 Grand Prix 2009 Professional Drift. As competitors from Finland, Japan, and the USA wowed the crowd, we talked to event host Ernie Menensala, drift racer Miro Ovcharik, and got advice for newcomers from Forest Wang, the Hawaiian newcomer who blew away more experienced hands in round 1. His advice? "Drive! Drive! Get any kind of tires as you can and burn 'm! If you don't drive, you're not going to get any better!" We also caught a glimpse of superstar drifter Daigo Saito, the 2008 champion out to score back-to-back victories.

Return to MTV Iggy Special Feature: Car Culture
