Arif Lohar is a burgeoning heavyweight in Pakistan’s Sufi music scene. The son of legend Alam Lohar, Arif has carried on his family tradition –all the way to New York’s gritty streets. Arif gave MTV Iggy an exclusive performance while visiting New York for the Arts Midwest led Caravanserai: A Place Where Cultures Meet programs at Asia Society. We took the star out of his traditional folk context and filmed a performance in…a Lower East Side hair salon. (Because, why not?!). In turn, young New Yorkers danced up a sweat to music they never get to hear in LES bars. And since the music is built to put you in the zone, we cut a psychedelic version of the performance, too.
