Eskmo travels through levels of nature in his video for “Cloudlight,” the opening track from his self-titled 2010 release on Ninja Tune. Over the slow, grinding beat, the San Francisco producer carries a box of ashes to its final resting place atop a cliff. It’s a break from the abstract imagery that accompanies so many instrumental productions these days, with Eskmo mouthing the sparse lyrics of his song. While Eskmo made a name for himself through dubstep, “Cloudlight” is an example of how he is inventing his own sound within the style.
