The four ricocheting balls of energy known as La Vida Boheme landed in New York for the MTV Iggy concert on 12.12.11 — and their long day of rehearsals and preparation is just wrapping up with one of most eye-popping photoshoots ever.
The Venezuelan dance punk quartet’s made colorful splashes of color a signature look. Take a look a their live performance for MTV Iggy this summer to see how they normally look when performing.
For this photoshoot, however, MTV Iggy’s photographer stripped their clothes off for full black body paint. Eerie, isn’t it?
“It’s like deja vu,” said singer Henry D’Arthenay. “Our second album as to with this kind of thing and the color black. About oil. It’s crazy that you thought of a concept that matches it.”
The painting process was slow and painstaking — black paint applied to all exposed areas of skin including under arms, around noses, and even ears.
That last part surprised the first LVB-er to be painted, Sebatian. “Holy sh#t! Wet willy, noooo!” he yelped as a paint brush bearing a load of cold, wet black paint went right into his ear.
And in case you’re wondering about how we covered every pore in these pictures…yes, beards and chest hair got a coat of paint too.
Painted like this they look slender and ghostly, like shadows cast in the night. The final photos will be of the boys against a black background, finally splashed in the colorful paint they’re associated with. And out of the darkness, they will emerge.
Stay tuned for the final photos later this week, but FIRST — don’t forget to watch La Vida Boheme performing LIVE at MTV Iggy’s Best New Band concert!
